Process for students to follow for assignment:
In order to complete this assignment you need to follow the process listed below. Feel free to ask the teacher questions, Good Luck!
1. Students will be placed into groups of three.
2. The students will look over the task page as well as the process page to understand what will be expected of them.
3. The students will each research a different recyclable item using the resources provided on the resource page.
The three recyclable items to be researched will be:
* Paper -Student 1
* Plastic -Student 2
* Aluminum -Student 3
4. Each student will write one paragraph about their recyclable item answering the following questions about the item:
a. Where does your recyclable item come from? ex.( a tree, oil)
b. How can we as a community reduce this item in the landfills?
c. What is the problem that our Earth faces from the overuse and non-recycling of this item?
d. What is a solution that you believe will help to over come this problem?
e. After learning about this topic, how did it make you feel?
The students should each use a computer to type out both the questions, along with their answers.
5. The students will then take each of the paragraphs and use them to create a poster. The teacher will give each team a poster board, and glue sticks will be provided along with markers for decorating the poster. Each poster will have a title of your choice, and should include at least one picture per student. The pictures can be either printed, drawn or cut out of a magazine and should reflect your topic of recyclable items. Please use creativity and neatness on your posters, as this will help your grade. When you feel your team's poster is completed please do not forget to include each group members' name. The poster part of the web quest will be due on Monday 12/17/12. Late posters will be deducted 5 points per day late.
6. On the same day of the poster due date 12/17/12, be sure to bring in your trash city items, as you will be working on them in class. The students will each bring in recyclable items from home in order to use to create their own "trash city". The students will need the following items:
a. One medium sized box (large enough to create buildings out of cans and plastic bottles.)
b. Plastic bottles, empty cans, tissue boxes, etc...
c. Bottle tops, candy wrappers, newspaper, paper towel rolls, etc....
Both the posters and the "trash city" projects will be displayed in the gym during conferences, so do your best and be creative!
7. Your almost done, do not forget to check the evaluation form on the last page of this assignment to make sure you haven't forgotten to do anything...Good Luck I cannot wait to see all of your hard work!
